January 2015 Box No.1

This week’s box is a very special box.  It is the last box I will receive from Silver Lake Farms.  So sad!  Silver Lake Farms has merged with Farm Box LA so that Tara, the founder of Silver Lake Farms, can focus on her passion of local sustainable, urban flower farming.  She really does have a gift so I’m excited for her but change is always a little hard isn’t it?

There were so many fun colors in this haul.  I often think of winter veggies as boring, colorless and bland but this box proves that to be very far from the truth.  The purple cauliflower was particularly exciting to me.  When I pulled it out of the box I thought it looked unreal, like someone had painted it.  Such a beautiful shade of purple.  I also got to work with red cabbage, beets and bright orange tangerines.  Then of course there were plenty of greens.  Overall I had a pretty amazing palate to work with and I will never think of winter produce as boring and drab again.

Delightful CSA BOX
